




The University of the Cumberlands (UC) football program had a successful season in 2011 but unfortunately did not end up in the NAIA playoffs. The Patriots had some athletes earn individual honors at season's end and another award was just handed out. The 2011 Daktronics-NAIA Football Scholar-Athletes have been announced with 244 student-athletes receiving the distinction.

The University of the Cumberlands (UC) football program ended its season when they defeated Cumberland University on the final week of the 2011 regular season. The Patriots finished the year with a 7-3 record and a 4-2 record in the MSC West Division, earning 2ndplace in the conference. A group of Patriots were honored on Thursday November 17thas the Mid-South Conference (MSC) handed out its yearly awards.

The University of the Cumberlands (UC) football Patriots went into today's game with a large chip on their shoulder as they looked to make the Mid-South Conference (MSC) West Division championship interesting throughout the conference. The Patriots did just that as they knocked off #20 Cumberland University Bulldogs 31-27 in UC's final regular season game.

On Saturday October 29th, University of the Cumberlands (UC) sophomore wide receiver Willie Gibson (Abbeville, GA) helped lead the University of the Cumberlands Patriots to a 58-0 shutout of Belhaven University, the first since 2002 and the first in the John Bland Era. During the game, Gibson caught two touchdown passes in the first quarter while also rushing for a touchdown. His second touchdown grab gave him 15 touchdowns in his career, eclipsing the school record for touchdown passes caught in a career.

On Saturday November 5th, the University of the Cumberlands (UC) Patriots football team traveled to Montgomery, AL to take on Mid-South Conference (MSC) West Division foe Faulkner University Eagles. The Patriots were looking to carry their dominance and use momentum from last week's game from the shutout against Belhaven University 58-0. That is exactly what UC accomplished as they defeated the Eagles by a final score of 62-28.
