




The University of the Cumberlands (UC) Women's Basketball program was carrying one of its most successful seasons into this year's NAIA National Tournament. With a 28-3 record, the Patriots drew a #2 seed in the tournament and faced the Rogers State University Hillcats in the opening round. A game that went into the early hours on Thursday morning, the Patriots fought hard until the final buzzer, but came up short in the end falling to the Hillcats 80-73 in overtime.

The University of the Cumberlands (UC) basketball programs are two of the most highly touted programs around the NAIA. The men's program has made numerous NAIA National Championship Tournament appearances in its history and has a storied former head coach in Randy Vernon who was inducted into the NAIA Hall of Fame. The women's team has also had its fair share of runs in the NAIA National Championship tournament including a run to the Elite 8 in 2009. The University of the Cumberlands (UC) Women's Basketball team found themselves in the MSC Tournament Championship game for the third time in four years on Sunday March 4th. The Patriots carried a 27-3 record into the game with one of its losses coming against their championship game foe, the Shawnee State Bears. The Patriots were determined to redeem themselves and that is just what they did with a 73-70 victory over the Bears to claim their third MSC Tournament Title in four years. It is the fourth MSC Tournament Championship for the Patriots since 2004-2005, all under the reign of Head Coach Melissa Irvin.
