[Men's Basketball] Patriot Basketball Hosts Team Camp

Throughout the summer, the University of the Cumberlands (UC) holds a variety of camps for children of all ages. This past week, the Patriots Men's Basketball team hosted its annual team camp for high school varsity and junior varsity teams, beginning June 9^th and continuing until June 12^th. While the camp extends its membership to any high school across America, it prides itself on local development. With all 11 teams this year located within the area, each has entered with the same goals: to improve as a team and to demonstrate the many talented athletes in the local area.

The University of the Cumberlands (UC) Men's basketball program completed their 2012-13 season earlier than expected this month, falling short of their National Championship dreams. While the Patriots didn't come away with the team title, there were multiple individuals recognized for their hard work this season.

The University of the Cumberlands Patriots came into the season with high hopes. After starting the season 15-1 and earning a #1 ranking in the NAIA in January, UC was looking stronger than ever. A tough restart to the MSC schedule unfortunately had the Patriots dropping 10 of their last 14 games as they entered the MSC Tournament as the #6 seed and taking on the #3 seeded Georgetown College Tigers.

Although the Patriots put up a valiant effort, the Rams were just too much for the Patriots, pulling away with a 76-64 victory. With the loss, the Patriots move to 18-11 overall on the season and 9-10 in Mid-South Conference (MSC) play.

University of the Cumberlands (UC) men's basketball team had an exciting week of rollercoaster basketball, falling short to the University of Rio Grande in double overtime 78-69 on Thursday and then regaining their strong presence in the Mid-South Conference (MSC) Saturday defeating the Bears of Shawnee State 83-79 on senior day. With the win over Shawnee State on Saturday, the Patriots moved to 18-10 on the season and 9-9 in Mid-South Conference play.

The Patriots fell to the #5 Pikeville Bears on Thursday night in front of a rowdy crowd 80-64, while falling short to the Cavs on Saturday afternoon 69-54. The Patriots now move to 15-3 on the season and 6-2 in Mid-South Conference (MSC) play.

The University of the Cumberlands (UC) Men's Basketball team celebrated the New Year this week as the NAIA Division I Men's Basketball Coaches' Top 25 poll was announced Tuesday, ranking the Patriots as the top team in the nation.

Cumberlands totaled seven first-place votes, climbing up one spot from the previous poll which was announced back in December of 2012. This is only the second time, according to the NAIA, that Cumberlands has been ranked the top team in the country. The last time the Patriots found themselves on top of the polls occurred Dec. 8, 2008.

The University of the Cumberlands (UC) Men's Basketball team got off to a hot start in 2013, winning two home games against strong Mid-South Conference (MSC) opponents in flashy style. The Patriots crushed the Tigers of Georgetown on Thursday 99-74, while strong team defense came through in the end to give them the victory over the Patriots of St. Catharine 81-79 on Saturday. With both wins, the #2 Patriots move to 15-1 on the season and 6-0 in conference action.
