They have been able to garner numerous team and individual awards and this season was no different as they were a household name in almost every award given out representing the NAIA. As the 2012-13 seasons come to an end, you can add one more award to UC's accomplishments this year.

The University of the Cumberlands (UC) football team has had a long history of success. Notably under the John Bland era, the Patriots have been able to win 4 Mid-South Conference titles, 5 NAIA FCS Playoff appearances, 2 playoff victories, and a slew of All-American and All-Conference honorees.

A season where they finished 10-2 and lost to defending national champion St. Xavier in the 2^nd round of the NAIA FCS Playoffs. This can not only be attributed to great coaching, but also the athletes they put on the field. Apparently the NFL is also taking notice of the Patriots, as several football Pats tried out for NFL scouts on Friday February 8.

The 6^th annual National Guard Border Bowl took place on Saturday January 12^th in Williamsburg, Kentucky on the campus of the University of the Cumberlands (UC). The Tennessee All-Stars dressed in their Tennessee orange and Kentucky All-Stars in their traditional royal blue were ready to battle it out as Kentucky looked to end a 3 year winning streak for the boys from the Volunteer state. Despite a dreary weather day, it was a game for the ages and could go down as one of the best game in Border Bowl history.

The 2013 National Guard Border Bowl is a non-profit organization established to promote high school football in Kentucky and Tennessee. The objective is to provide an ALL-STAR game featuring the top players in Kentucky and Tennessee. This game allows players to have one more opportunity to play, practice and battle it out for the rights to the border. It also allows high school seniors to gain additional exposure and perhaps earn a scholarship for college. This year the game will be played on Saturday, January 12^th with kick-off at 12:00 PM at James H. Taylor, II Stadium in Williamsburg, KY, home of the University of the Cumberlands Patriots.

[Football] Merrick Earns Dakstats-NAIA Football Scholar-Athlete Honor

The University of the Cumberlands (UC) football program had a season to remember. It was a season with many thrills and records broken, but unfortunately ended with an exit in the NAIA FCS Quarterfinals. The Patriots had many athletes earn individual honors at season's end and another award was just handed out. The 2012 Daktronics-NAIA Football Scholar-Athletes have been announced with 260 student-athletes receiving the distinction. For the University of the Cumberlands Patriots, Al Merrick (Pineville, KY) earned the distinction of being named a Daktronics NAIA Scholar Athlete.

The University of the Cumberlands (UC) football team has finished its best season since 2009. It was a season that will go down in history as the Patriots finished 10-2, set numerous individual school records, and won its second ever NAIA FCS Championship Series game defeating MidAmerica Nazarene 42-24 in the first round. Unfortunately for the Patriots the season came to an end as they lost in the second round to defending NAIA National Champion St. Xavier 35-21.

The Patriots had an incredible season that saw school records shattered, numerous weekly awards won, and many victorious games on the field. The Patriots received many awards for their efforts and one man stood above the rest of the pack.

Two weeks ago, their season came to an end as they lost to defending National Champion St. Xavier in the NAIA Football Championship Series (FCS) Quarterfinals 35-21. The Patriots had a season to remember that was complete with contributions by some exceptional men. A plethora of Patriots had stellar seasons and have been recognized with high honors by the Beyond Sports Network (BSN).
