[Football] Patriots Football Visit Local Elementary Schools

Williamsburg, Ky. – On Friday, February 3^rd, the University of the Cumberlands (UC) football players took time out their normal schedule to visit some of the local elementary schools. The Patriots were guests at Whitley County Primary School (WCPS) and Whitley County Intermediate School (WCIS).

When people think of college football at the NAIA level and speak about Cumberlands, people know who you are talking about. They know that UC is one program year in and year out that is going to compete for a spot in the NAIA National Championship tournament and have that chance of making a run for a NAIA National Title.

The University of the Cumberlands plans to honor a special group of athletic personnel as they will be inducted into the 2012 Athletic Hall of Fame on Saturday, February 25, 2012. Joining this elite club will be Tom Dowling (Football Coach), David Estes (Outstanding Service - Broadcasting), Charles Reed (Track), Ken Smith (Track), and Christen Heideman Von Hertsenberg (Swimming; unable to attend).

[Men's Wrestling] Patriot Wrestling Competes in NAIA East Group Qualifier

The University of the Cumberlands (UC) Men's Wrestling team hosted the NAIA Eastern Group Qualifier this past weekend hosting some of the top teams in the country including Campbellsville University, Missouri Baptist University, Lindsey Wilson College, Shorter University, Indiana Tech, Calumet College, Cumberland University, and Truett-McConnell.

At the beginning of each season it takes time for teams to mesh together and get in mid-season form. The same is true for the University of the Cumberlands (UC) baseball team as they look to put the pieces together to make a run at a Mid-South Conference and NAIA World Series Title. On Friday, February 17^th, the Patriots welcomed the Bearcats of Brescia University to Doyle Buhl Stadium in Williamsburg, KY for a four game series. Both teams had an answer every time the other gained momentum, but it was the Patriots coming away winning 3 of the 4 games.

[Softball] Patriot Softball Drops Season Openers against TN Wesleyan

The University of the Cumberlands (UC) Softball team opened up their 2012 season on Saturday as they hosted Tennessee Wesleyan College (TWC) for a doubleheader. The Patriots fell to the Bulldogs in both games, 8-0 in game one and 8-6 in game two, giving them a 0-2 record to open the season.

[Men's Basketball] Patriots Basketball Splits Games on the Road with Overtime Win Saturday

The University of the Cumberlands (UC) Men's Basketball Team had a tough start to their week but ended with a bang as they fell to the Georgetown Tigers on Thursday night but redeemed themselves with a big overtime win over Shawnee State on Saturday afternoon. With a loss and win on the week, the men move to 16-10 overall with an 8-6 record in Mid-South Conference (MSC) play, tying them for third place in the MSC.

The University of the Cumberlands (UC) Women's Basketball Team was on the road for the long weekend with two games against the Tigers of Georgetown College on Thursday night and the Bears of Shawnee State on Saturday afternoon. Although in both games the women fought hard and played together, the Patriot ladies couldn't seem to find their rhythm, losing both tough games on the week.

[Tennis] UC Tennis Goes 0-2 On Week

The University of the Cumberlands (UC) tennis team jumpstarted the spring season on the road. On Wednesday, February 15, 2012, the Patriots traveled to Harrogate, TN to take of the Railsplitters of Lincoln Memorial University (LMU). Both teams gave great effort, but failed to come out on top as the men lost 0-9, and the women 3-6. On Friday, the 17^th, the Patriots traveled to Jefferson City, TN to take on Carson Newman College (CN). After hard fought matches, the Patriots still came up short to the Eagles, as the men lost 2-7, and the women more closely 4-5.

The #5 ranked Patriot ladies, who continue to climb up the national rankings, are pulling away in first place in the Mid-South Conference (MSC) standings, and move closer to their goal of "Working for Tuesday."

The University of the Cumberlands (UC) Men's Basketball team went into the week with the longest winning streak of all conference teams as the University of Rio Grande and West Virginia Tech made trips to Williamsburg. The Patriots earned a split this week with a win Thursday night against the University of Rio Grande 76-58 and a loss Saturday afternoon to West Virginia Tech 71-80. This week's play moves the Patriots to 15-9 on the season along with a conference record of 7-5, moving them to fourth place in the Mid-South Conference (MSC).

[Swimming] Swimming Shines on Senior Day

On Saturday, February 11th, the University of the Cumberlands (UC) Men and Women's swim teams hosted their final home meet with a double-duel against Berea College and Campbellsville University at the Dinah Taylor Aquatic Center. It was a day full of excitement with it being the final meet, the Patriot seniors being honored, and last minute cuts being made to qualify for nationals.
