Norfolk, VA – The University of the Cumberlands men's and women's swim teams both earned College Swimming & Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) Scholar All-America team recognition, while 13 swimmers were named CSCAA Scholar All-Americans, announced last week.

The men's swimming team finished the year with a 3.19 GPA and were one of only nine NAIA schools to earn this honor.  The women's swimming team posted a 3.43 GPA to be one of 12 NAIA schools to garner this award. In total, 720 teams representing 443 schools were named CSCAA Scholar Teams. To be eligible each team had to have a minimum GPA of 3.0 during the spring 2017 semester.  

In addition to being named scholar team, UC also had 13 swimmers named CSCAA Scholar All-Americans. Gustavs Baumanis (FR/Riga, Latvia), Igor Dozortsev (SR/Moscow, Russia), Brian Gibbs (SO/Grey, KY), Bryce Pierce (SO/Boca Raton, FL), Brenden Rodgers (SO/Peoria, AZ), and Jacob Smith (SO/Masterton, New Zealand) earned All-American honors for the men's team, while Seth Garner (JR/Owensboro, KY) was an honorable mention. On the women's side Nicole Ceausu (FR/Knoxville, TN), Christina Klouda (SO/Knoxville, TN), Jessica Pope (JR/Barbourville, KY), Danielle Rehl (SO/Columbus, OH), and Katy Smeltzer (SO/Portland, IN) garnered All-American honors, while Falon Bell (FR/Maysville, GA) was named as an honorable mention. 

To be eligible each swimmer must achieve a minimum 3.50 GPA either in the spring semester or cumulative.  To earned All-American status the swimmer must qualified and competed at the NAIA National Championships, while those swimmer that earned honorable mention accolades must achieve an individual "B" time standard.

In total 997 swimmers from across all division of NCAA/NAIA/NJCAA.

The men's swimming and diving time finished fourth at the NAIA National Championships, which is tied for the best finish in program history. The women's swimming and diving team captured their third straight Mid-South Conference title en route to a sixth place finish at the NAIA National Championships.
