London, KY – UC Women's Golf took to familiar territory on Monday as they hosted the opening round of the 2017 MSC Spring Invite at Crooked Creek Golf Course. On a day when skies were to be blue with warm temperatures, Mother Nature took charge with overcast and rainy conditions with cool air and wind. The Patriots would use it to their advantage as much as possible as they are currently tied for the lead after the opening round of play.
UC opened the tournament with a team score of 319, tying with the Phoenix of Cumberland University for the team lead by five strokes over Lindsey Wilson College who sits in third place. Campbellsville University claimed fourth place on the day, 14 shots off the lead.
Individually, Kaitlyn Riley (JR/Lawrenceburg, KY) led the way for the Patriots as she fired an opening round of 76 (+3), just one shot off the lead currently held by Savanna Strode of Cumberland University. Candice Lindeque (SR/Boksburg, South Africa) is just one shot behind Riley with a first round 77 (+4) to sit in third place. Rachel Pingleton (SR/Parksville, KY) carded a 79 (+6) in the first round to tie for sixth place while Sadie Martinez-Clavijo (SR/Hartford, CT) scored an 87 (+14) as she sits tied for 18th place. Annabeth McKay (SR/Jefferson, TX) would round out the team with a 91 to tie for 26th place, but her score was discarded today in the team total.
Latoshia Davis (SR/Williamsburg, KY) and Chelsie Chambers (FR/Oneida, TN) would compete as individuals in the tournament. Davis currently sits tied for 29th with an opening round score of 100 while Chambers is tied for 34th with a score of 105.
