West Point, GA – The eighth-ranked University of the Cumberlands men's lacrosse team scored seven unanswered goals in the final 20 minutes to come from behind and defeat (RV) Point 12-9 Saturday afternoon at River Bowl Stadium.  With the win the Patriots extend their win streak to three straight and improve to 5-3 overall and 2-0 in the AAC, while the Skyhawks fall to 3-5 overall and 1-1 in conference play.

Point struck first as Gregory Wilson netted an unassisted goal with 9:26 remaining in the first period to give the Skyhawks a 1-0 lead.  Cumberlands responded as Kody Swan scored a man-down goal to tie the game 1-1.  Just over a minute later Dalton Smith (FR/Springboro, OH) converted his tenth goal of the season to give the Patriots a 2-1 lead with 6:32 left.  Point scored back-to-back goals before Sam Collinson (FR/Chesapeake Beach, MD) found Mitchell cutting towards the cage for a goal to even the score at 3-3.  The Skyhawks got a goal in the final seconds to take a 4-3 advantage after the opening period.

The score remained that way until the 3:29 mark of the second quarter as Luke Wyatt (FR/Springboro, OH) scored an unassisted  goal to even the score 4-4.  After two straight goals from the Skyhawks, Henry Quaye (SO/Germantown. MD) connected with Collinson for a goal to bring Cumberlands within one 6-5 at the break.

Point came out strong in the third quarter scoring three unanswered goals, over a ten minute span, to take a 9-5 lead with 5:05 remaining.  UC started to battle back as Wyatt found Preston Brooks (FR/Lexington, KY) for a man-up goal at the 1:04 mark.  The Patriots used an unassisted goal from Mitchell to cut the lead to 9-7 after the third quarter.

Cumberlands carried their momentum into the final quarter as Swann won the opening faceoff.  On the ensuing possession Smith found Quaye in front of the cage for a goal to bring the Patriots within one 9-8.  Wyatt netted back-to-back goals within a one-minute span, to give Cumberlands a 10-9 advantage with 10:30 remaining. Brooks and Collinson each added a goal for the 12-9 final.  Dakota Lambing (SO/West Chester, OH) made five of his season-high 17 saves to keep Point scoreless in the period.

Leading the way for UC was Wyatt and Mtichell who recorded four points apiece. Quaye added a goal and two assists, while Collinson finished with two goals and an assist. Swann went 11-20 on faceoffs, while scooping up six ground balls.
