Williamsburg, KY – UC Baseball was back at it on Friday as they host Robert Morris University for the first contest of a three game series. It was another phenomenal performance on the mound by Noah Gapp (SR/St. Albert, Alberta) as the Patriots would win their seventh straight game in a 5-1 victory over the Eagles. The win moves the Patriots to 20-6 overall on the season.
Scoring began early for the Patriots as Jesse Reyes (SR/Palm Springs, CA) drove in a run on a RBI triple in the bottom of the first, making it a 1-0 UC lead. Reyes would come around to score later in the inning on a passed ball to extend the lead to 2-0. In the top of the third, RMU would cut the lead in half on a RBI double by Corey Krupske, sending the game to the bottom half of the inning at 2-1.
Two errors in the bottom of the fourth inning spelled trouble for the Eagles as UC would score three in the frame, two on errors and one on a RBI single by Reed Spata (JR/Taylor Mill, KY) to make it 5-1 Patriots. The rest of the contest laid on the shoulder and arm of Noah Gapp, who continuously had the Eagles guessing all day. He would only allow the one run in the 5-1 victory.
Gapp would earn the win, tossing his second consecutive complete game. He went 7.0 innings allowing just the one earned run on five hits and no walks while striking out 10 in the game. He now has 10-plus strikeouts in his last three starts for the Patriots.
UC returns to the diamond on Saturday for the final two games of the series against Robert Morris University, closing out a 20-game home stand. Game one scheduled to begin at 12 pm.
