Emerson, GA – UC Baseball knew day two of the 2017 Perfect Game Spring Swing would be tough as they would take on Bethel University in a seven inning contest and Reinhardt University in a nine inning affair. Even under duress, the Patriots would show grit and determination to defeat Bethel 6-0 and Reinhardt 5-3, moving UC to 5-1 overall on the season.

Game one against Bethel saw a gem pitched by winning pitcher Noah Gapp (SR/St. Albert, Alberta) as he would rely on his defense to help leave eight runners stranded during the contest. He finished the day going 6.0 innings allowing no runs on five hits and two walks while striking out four. Scoring would not begin until the top of the fifth when Bryan Benz (SO/Arlington, TX) would belt a two-run bomb to deep center field to take a 2-0 lead. UC would add four runs in the sixth including a RBI double by Jesse Reyes (SR/Palm Springs, CA), a two run double by Chase Schmittou (SR/Lincoln Park, MI), and a RBI single by Landon Byron (SR/Johnson City, TN) to make it 6-0, the final score.

Game two saw the Pats have to battle from behind. Reinhardt would strike first in the fourth on a two run home run by Daniel Rodriguez, making it 2-0 Reinhardt. UC cut into the lead in the fifth on a RBI single by Andrew Ramos (JR/Orange, CA) to make it 2-1. UC would take the lead in the sixth with a two-run single by Reed Spata (JR/Taylor Mill, KY) to make it 3-2 Patriots before the Eagles would tie the game in the top of the seventh with a run scoring off a UC error to make it 3-3. In the bottom of the eighth, UC would use three Reinhardt errors to score two runs before Nicholas Purpera (SO/Gonzales, LA) would come in to close out the game for his second save of the season. The win would go to reliever Hampton Clark (SO/Kennesaw, GA) who went 4.0 innings allowing one unearned run on one hit and three walks with a strikeout.

Head Coach Brad Shelton said to his team after the games, "Great job today. Way to fight and be happy for the wins, but we are not done. This is a business trip and we have to finish business on Sunday."

UC returns to action on Sunday as they close out the 2017 Perfect Game Spring Swing with a doubleheader against Mount Mercy at 10 am and a game to follow with Reinhardt University.
