The University of the Cumberlands (UC) Men's Soccer program has a good history of success as a team. Numerous players have had great careers here at UC and have gone on to become successful coaches as well. Vice President of Athletics Randy Vernon is pleased to announce the hiring of Tim Brooks as the new Head Coach for the Patriot Men's Soccer team.
Tim Brooks comes to UC with 7 years of head coaching experience after a stint at UC as a player and then assistant coach. As a player, Brooks was a 2nd Team All-American at then Cumberland College and earned 1st Team All Mid-South Conference accolades. He was chosen his team's Most Valuable player (MVP) and served as the football team's kicker and punter in his senior year. Brooks spent his freshman year at Oral Roberts University in Tulsa, Okla., where he was recognized with selection to the Mid-Continent Conference 2nd Team All-Conference squad and won the 1999 MCC Championship. Brooks was the Assistant Men's Soccer Coach/Goalkeepers Coach here at UC from 2004 to 2007 where he twice developed an All-Conference goalkeeper and his teams were ranked as high as No. 20 in the NAIA.
After leaving UC, Brooks had a successful three-year stay with the University of Great Falls (UGF) in Montana where he held an overall record of 24-16-1 after starting the program in May of 2007. At UGF, Brooks' squad was a finalist at NAIA Unaffiliated/Independent Conference Tournament in 2009 in only its third year of competition and finished with a 15-5 record. In 2008, UGF compiled an 8-8-1 record in its first full season of play and was a semifinalist at the UIC Tournament.
His latest tenure was at Spring Hill College (SHC) in Mobile, Alabama. Brooks led the Badgers to back-to-back 10-win seasons in 2011 and 2012, posting the first consecutive winning seasons in team history. During his four years at SHC, Brooks has coached 14 SSAC All-Academic Team members, five Daktronics-NAIA Scholar Athletes, and a 3rd team CoSIDA Academic All-American Team member in goalkeeper Cory Bronenkamp.
Brooks has worked with four NAIA All-Americans over his coaching career along with 24 All-Conference players, 14 Daktronics-NAIA Scholar Athletes and two players who have moved into the ranks of professional soccer.
Brooks has been active in the off season with numerous camps and service organizations. He completed his B.S. in Health, Movement and Leisure Studies from Cumberland College (University of the Cumberlands) in 2004 and earned a Master's degree in Organizational Management-Human Development from the University of Great Falls in 2009.
When asked about becoming the head coach at UC, Brooks said, "I'm extremely excited about the opportunity. Cumberlands is where I finished my playing career and started my coaching career. I just want to thank Dr. Taylor, Coach Vernon, and the rest of the administration for giving me the opportunity to return home and coach in a program I am very familiar with."
Vernon added, "I am extremely pleased to have Tim Brooks as our Head Men's Soccer coach. Coach Brooks brings to our program seven years of head coaching experience, and as a UC graduate and former player and assistant coach, familiarity with our soccer program. I know that he will have a very positive influence on our team members and continue to build our Men's Soccer program into one of the best in the Mid- South Conference."
