The University of the Cumberlands (UC) and Vice President of Athletics Randy Vernon announce that Matt Lowers has stepped down as the Head Coach for the Men's Wrestling program.  Lowers has been the Head Coach for the program for the last four seasons. 

"I am sorry to see Matt leave, but I understand his desire to further his education.  He has done an excellent job with our wrestling program and he will be missed.  I wish him nothing but the best in whatever path his future takes him." said Vernon.

Lowers had continued to build upon a program with a rich history of making its mark in the NAIA.  During his at UC, Lowers coached 5 NAIA All-Americans including one 2-time All-American in Larone Madison and an NAIA National Champion runner-up in Courtney Freeman.  Overall, he posted a 23-23 mark in dual competition as well as sending numerous Patriots to the NAIA National Championship Tournament. 

Numerous Patriots also won the NAIA East Qualifier tournament under the tutelage of Coach Lowers.  During his time at UC, Lowers coached 8 All Mid-South Conference selections, 9 Academic All-Conference athletes, 1 Mid-South Conference Freshman of the Year, 1 Mid-South Conference Wrestler of the Year, 4 NAIA Scholar Athletes, and 5 NAIA All-Americans. 

"We will begin our search immediately to find the next wrestling coach for our university," stated Vernon.  "We will have a good nucleus of players returning and I look forward to another successful season in 2014.  We want our players to know that we will do everything we can to find the best fit for our team and for University of the Cumberlands."
