Game 1
Game 2
University of Rio Grande

The University of the Cumberlands' (UC) Patriot softball team was on the road on Wednesday as they traveled to Rio Grande, OH to take on the Red Storm of Rio Grande for the second time this season.  The Patriots split with Rio at home, but unfortunately were not able to grab any more wins from the Red Storm as they were defeated in both games on the road with final scores of 4-0 in the first game and 5-0 in the second game.  The Patriots' record now moves to 13-22 on the season and 10-12 in the Mid-South Conference (MSC).

The Patriot offense struggled to get hits against the Red Storm's pitcher Jenna Jones in the first game.  However, Tori Poma (Las Vegas, NV) was able to get a hit off of her to prevent a no-hitter.  The Patriot ladies were making good contact with the ball throughout the game; they just couldn't get any hits through Rio's defense.

Nichol Chesley (Dayton, OH) was on the mound for game one as she pitched a total of 6.0 innings allowing 4 runs off 7 hits and 1 walk while striking out 5.  Chesley's record now moves to 9-11 on the season with a 2.56 ERA.

Game two progressed in a similar fashion as UC's offense continued to struggle.  However, two of the Patriot ladies were able to grab a few hits including Missy Buchannan (Science Hill, TN) and Mary Beth Hogue (Hustonville, KY), who each had one hit a piece.  This wouldn't be enough for the Patriots as Rio Grande would have 9 hits on the game and out score UC 5-0.

Ashleigh Hopf (Dayton, OH) started off game two on the mound and pitched a total of 5.0 innings allowing 5 runs on 9 hits while striking out 3.  Kristen Moran (Barbourville, KY) would come in to close the game out in the 6th inning, making her first pitching appearance on the season.  Moran did well as she faced 3 batters and allowed no runs to score on one walk while striking out 1.  Hopf was credited with the loss and now moves to 4-6 on the season with an ERA of 3.58.

The Patriot ladies will be back on their home field on Friday, April 18th for another MSC doubleheader as they take on the Cumberland University Bulldogs.  First pitch is set for 3:00 pm.
