The University of the Cumberlands (UC) Men's Tennis team hosted Union College on Wednesday for their second meeting of the season. The Patriots were successful the second time around as well as they defeated the Bulldogs 7-2. This match begins the wind down of the Patriots 2013-2014 season as they are one match away from competing in the Mid-South Conference (MSC) Tournament.
The men began with doubles action and two UC pairs would claim victories. Number two seeds Tyler Smith (Central City, KY) and Daryl MacLeish (Atlanta, GA) defeated Union's Jorge Jackson and Jamie Mclellan 8-1. First time three seeds Franco Holguin (GÃƒÂ³mez Palacio, Durango, Mexico) and Michael Chiel (Sydney, Australia) defeated their opponents Mic Moore and Josh Souane 8-1.
UC would win all of their singles matches but one. Ariez Heshaam (Kuching, Malaysia) continued his winning streak in the number one seed as he defeated Union's Louis Molina 6-1, 6-0. Dan Fraser (Cooma, Australia) also defeated his opponent Jorge Jackson in the number three seed 6-0, 6-0. Senior Danilo Garcia (Quito, Ecuador) kept things going for the Patriots as he defeated Jamie Mclellan 6-0, 6-0. There were two more Patriots that had success on the court. Kenny Wilson (Bowling Green, KY) defeated Mic Moore 6-0, 6-1. Daryl MacLeish put the nail in the coffin for the Patriot win as he defeated Josh Souane 6-1, 6-1.
The Patriots will be back in action on April 15th as the host the Eagles of Carson Newman College. This will also be senior day for the men. Match time and festivities are set for 3:00 p.m.
