The University of the Cumberlands (UC) Women's Basketball team suffered a tough loss Saturday afternoon, as the Patriot ladies travelled to Bluefield College to face the Rams. Although Cumberlands lead the majority of the game, it wasn't enough to hold onto the victory, as the Patriots fell 76-71 on the road. With the loss, the Patriot ladies move to 15-9 overall and 9-5 in Mid-South Conference (MSC) play.
The game started off physical from the get-go with both teams doing most of their damage in the paint. The Rams were able to out-muscle the Patriot ladies out-rebounding Cumberlands 38-31 and cashing in on 10 second-chance points. Although the final score wasn't what the Patriots had hoped for, there were quite a few notable individual performances. Brooke Forsythe (Brunswick, OH) led all scorers with 20 points and 6 rebounds, while Julie Haye (Polo, IL) and Jill Herman (Powell, TN) both added 15 points to the stat line. Jackie Alexander (Brodhead, KY) was the only other Patriot player to reach double-digit figures with 12 points.
The Patriot ladies will head to Pikeville on Monday as they face the Bears in a make-up game, which was cancelled last Thursday due to inclement weather conditions. Tip-off is set for 7:00 pm.
