Men's Bowling - Tue, Jan. 28, 2014

The University of the Cumberlands (UC) Men's Bowling team was back in action this weekend as they traveled to Richmond, KY to participate in the Bulldog Classic.  This would be the Patriots' first tournament of the 2014 year and marked the mid-point of their season.  This Bulldog Classic and the upcoming tournament at Northern Kentucky University would serve as great practice for the team as they are approaching the Mid-South Conference (MSC) tournament in late February.

This tournament would host 8 teams, and 5 would be MSC contenders in UC, University of Pikeville, Cumberland University, Campbellsville University, and St. Catherine College.  The Patriots finished 5th out of 8 total teams with an overall score of 6538 after 5 team games and 3 sets of Baker games.

There were a total of 81 bowlers present this weekend, and there were 6 Patriots who participated.  Travis Burkhart (Corbin, KY) rounded out the top-25 in 25th place with a total tournament score of 915.  Brad Paynter (Carlisle, OH) finished 6 spots behind Burkhart in 31st with a total score of 874.  In 44th place was Tirus Page (Durham, NC) who racked up a total score of 758.  Two spots behind him was Jacob Wakeland (Delton, MI) and he finished in 46th place with 730 points.  Darion Hite (Hillsborough, NC) barely missed out of the top-50 as he finished in 52nd with 645 total points.  Sean Dietzman (Elizabethtown, KY) was the final Patriot in the rankings, and he finished 61st, with a total score of 461.

The newest MSC rankings were also recently released and the Patriots are currently sitting in 4th place.

"We got off to a slow start at the Bulldog Classic," commented Head Coach Kevin Reigle. "The guys showed a lot of heart rallying late to keep us in 4th place in the conference standings.  If we can come out and make our spares the last two events I think we will be in good shape going into the MSC Conference Tournament."

The Patriots will be back in action on February 8th as they travel to Erlanger, KY to participate in the NKU Norse Collegiate Classic.
