The University of the Cumberlands (UC) football team has just wrapped up the best season in Patriot football history. The Patriots finished with a 13-1 record and earned a trip to the NAIA National Championship where they lost to Grand View University 35-23. The Patriots have rewritten history yet again in the final NAIA Postseason poll.
The Patriots finished second in the final NAIA polls, the highest postseason ranking in school history. The Patriots were #1 in the final 2 polls of the NAIA Top 25 polls, also a first in school history. Grand View was voted number 1 in the nation receiving 12 of the 12 first place votes.
The Patriots weren't the only team from the Mid-South Conference to be represented in the final polls. Faulkner University received a high ranking after their tremendous season rounding out the top 10. Georgetown finished just outside the top 10 with a 12th place ranking. Lindsey Wilson College also finished in the top 20 as they were voted #19. After a rough start to the season, Cumberland University found its form late and was ranked 23rd in the final poll. Reinhardt University received votes in the final NAIA poll, a superb finish to a first year program.
The Patriots now must turn their attention to next season after a magical 2013 campaign. There is no doubt the Patriots will be ranked high starting next season. UC hopes to remain that way as they have their eyes set for another NAIA National Championship appearance.
