The University of the Cumberlands (UC) Football program defended their home field advantage on Saturday as they took down #16 St. Ambrose University 56-28 in the opening round of the NAIA Football Championship Series (FCS).  With the win, the Patriots moved to 11-0 on the season.  On Sunday, the NAIA announced the matchups for the NAIA FCS Quarterfinals.   

The #1 ranked UC Patriots will host #6 University of St. Francis (IN) on Saturday at James H. Taylor, II Stadium in Williamsburg.  The Cougars come into the game Saturday with a 9-2 overall record and went 5-1 this season in the Mid-State Football Association Mideast League.

Head Coach John Bland commented, "St. Francis is a quality football team in all three phases of the game.  I feel like our team continues to improve, which is necessary to be successful at this time of year.  We are excited to be hosting again and hope to have a great crowd this weekend."

The Patriots enter into the NAIA FCS Quarterfinals with the #1 ranked rushing offense per game in the NAIA averaging 362.1 yards.  They also sit among the top 5 in total sacks against (6), scoring offense per game (48.3 points/game), 3rd down conversions (51.9%), total scoring offense (531 points), total rushing offense (3,983 yards), total offensive yards per game (487.1 yards/game), and first downs per game (24.8).  The Cougars are among the top 5 in the NAIA in punt yards per attempt (44.1 yards/punt), PAT kicking (97.7%), and 3rd down conversions (48.1%).

The Cougars are 7-1 this season against NAIA Top 25 teams.  Their only defeats this season came against Grand View 23-7 and Robert Morris University 28-24.  The Patriots are 11-0 for the first time in school history and are 6-0 against NAIA Top 25 teams this season.

This will be the 2nd time in school history that the Patriots will face the Cougars in the NAIA FCS Quarterfinals.  Their last meeting was in 2008 when the Cougars defeated UC 31-20 in Fort Wayne. 

Kickoff on Saturday will be at 12:00 pm at James H. Taylor, II Stadium.  Tickets will be $10.00 each.
