The University of the Cumberlands (UC) football program is 7-0 after a huge come from behind victory on Saturday against #19 Reinhardt University.  As the Patriots needed some big stops defensively late in the game, one player stood out among the rest and for his efforts earned conference honors today.

Patriot senior linebacker Jeremy Gardner (Frankfort, KY) was named the Mid-South Conference Defensive Player of the Week, conference officials announced on Monday.  Gardner had season-highs in tackles, tackles for a loss and sacks in a 28-24 win over No. 19-ranked Reinhardt University to earn the award.   He recorded 14 tackles in the game, with 9 being solo tackles. Gardner added four tackles for a loss and a sack while helping the Patriot defense limit the Eagles to a season-low 138 rushing yards.

Gardner ranks 20th in the Mid-South this season averaging 6.4 tackles per game.  He has 6-1/2 tackles for a loss and one sack in 2013.

The Patriots will be back in action on Saturday as they travel to take on Campbellsville University.  Kickoff is set for 1:30 pm.
