The University of the Cumberlands (UC) Men's Soccer team had a tough matchup against the University of Rio Grande Red Storm on October 26th. Although UC put up a solid fight, they fell to the NAIA #1 ranked Red Storm 5-1 in a Mid-South Conference (MSC) matchup. The Patriots move to a season record of 7-6-1 and a Mid-South Conference record of 6-2.
The game began with Rio scoring 15 minutes into the first half, and once more in the 33rd minute of the game. Rio would carry a 2-0 lead into half, but the Patriots would continue to look to make something happen. Rio placed another two in the net soon after the beginning of the second half, but was answered shortly by a goal from sophomore Pedro Antonelli (Mairipord, Brazil) who smashed the ball into the net after using his skills to sweep past Rio's defense, bringing the score of the match to 4-1. Rio's Luiz Filho found one more goal in the 76th minute, giving the Red Storm the 5-1 victory over UC.
The Patriots will take to the road to go head-to-head with fellow MSC member Campbellsville University on October 30th. The match is set to start at 8:00 p.m.
