The University of the Cumberlands (UC) Patriot football team continued its quest for an undefeated season last week as they beat the NAIA #14 Lindsey Wilson Blue Raiders 52-45.  The Patriots kept making big play after big play both on offense and on special teams.  One player elevated his game above the rest, and helped seal the win for his team.  It was so impressive; it earned him the Beyond Sports Network (BSN) special teams Player of the Week award.

Willie Gibson (Abbeville, GA) had himself a game to remember against Lindsey Wilson this week as he had 7 kick return attempts for a school record 173 yards.  Gibson's kickoff in the middle of the fourth quarter was his best.  After a touchdown by Lindsey Wilson to make it 45-35, Gibson took the kickoff 74 yards to the end zone to make it 52-35.  Cumberlands would go onto the win the game 52-45 and Gibson was a huge reason for the victory.  Also on Saturday, Gibson broke the record for most return yards in a career at UC as he now has 1,337 yards in his career.

The Patriots will have a bye week to rest and recover before hosting Mid-South Conference rival Georgetown College on October 19th at James H. Taylor, II Stadium.  This will also be Cumberlands' Breast Cancer Awareness game.  Kickoff is set for 1:30 pm.
