The University of the Cumberlands (UC) Cross Country Teams traveled to Louisville, Kentucky this past weekend to compete in the Greater Louisville Cross Country Classic.  The Patriot men competed in the 8k event while the women's team competed in the 5k event.  The men's team had runners in two separate races, blue and silver, while the women's team only competed in one blue race due to the amount of runners from the meet being so large.

Competing in the men's blue 8k race were the Patriots top seven runners.  The first Patriot to cross the line was Jonathan Gears (Andover, OH) who ran a time of 25:37 and finished 6th overall out of 204 total runners.  Behind Gears was Donald Whyte (Miamisburg, OH) who finished in 38th place with a time of 26:46.  Stephen Sartoris (Dayton, OH) crossed the line next with a time of 27:13 finishing in 66th place.  Following Sartoris, coming off of an injury from earlier this week, was Sam Meredith (Louisville, KY) who still finished in 76th place with a time of 27:24.  Freshman Sam Beal (Beavercreek, OH) finished with a time of 27:31 in 85th place.  Finishing out the men's blue team was Josh Moon (Batavia, OH) who ran a 28:21 and finished in 127th place.  The Patriots finished in 8th place out of 25 teams.

The Patriot ladies competed in the women's blue 5k event.  Finishing first for UC was Danielle Hoop (Owenton, KY) who ran a time of 18:52 finishing 8th overall out of 204 ladies.  Next up was Madison Peace (Walton, KY) who finished in 46th place with a time of 19:40.  Sydney Freeman (Corbin, KY) finished in 60th place after running a personal record time of 19:52, while Shelby Gibbons (Hamersville, OH) finished in 87th place with a time of 20:21, finishing seven seconds faster than a year ago.  Meg McGaha (Beavercreek, OH) finished in 93rd place with a time of 20:27 for the Patriots.  Rounding out the ladies top seven was Christine Moon (Sardina, OH) who ran a 20:36 for a 105th place, finishing three seconds faster on this course from a year ago.  Maureen McGaha (Beavercreek, OH) also ran a time of 21:28 coming in 150th place.  There were two more Patriots who competed in the race which were Bonnie Nutt (Phillips, WI) and Annmarie Lake (Mason, OH) who placed 155th and 159th respectively with times of 21:35 and 21:39.  The Patriot ladies finished in 12th place out of 25 teams.

The Patriots Cross Country team will take a week off before traveling to Wilmington, OH on Fall Break for the Wilmington Invitational on October 18th.
