The University of the Cumberlands (UC) Men's Soccer team faced off in their toughest match of the season as they traveled to Lindsey Wilson College (LWC) on Friday evening to face off against the NAIA #1 ranked Blue Raiders. Although the Patriots entered the contest undefeated in Mid-South Conference play, the Blue Raiders offensive attack was too much for Cumberlands to handle as they fell to Lindsey Wilson 7-1. With the loss, the Patriots now move to 4-4-1 overall and 4-1 in MSC play.
The Blue Raiders controlled all aspects of the game from the beginning, living up to their national praise. Within the first 5 minutes of play, Tom Moody scored his first of two goals on the evening. His teammates followed his aggressive play and determination, scoring two more times before halftime. Only down 3-0 going into the second half, the Patriots did their best to weather the storm but were unable to lock down the intense Blue Raider forwards, watching the score soon slip away to 6-0 with only 28 minutes left to play. Determined not to give up, the Patriots were able to strike at least once, with Pedro Antonelli
(Mairipord, Brazil) finding the back of the net at the 66th
minute of play. However, the goal wasn't enough to get the Patriots moving, as the Blue Raiders scored their 7th
and final goal of the evening, pushing the final score to 7-1.
The Patriots will look to regain their winning ways on Wednesday at home when they face Georgetown College at 3:30 pm in a Mid-South Conference matchup.
