The University of the Cumberlands (UC) Men's Golf Team looked to continue their reign of dominance on the links this season as they traveled to Georgetown, KY on Monday to participate in the Mid-South Conference (MSC) Fall Tournament at the Cherry Blossom Golf Course. Although the men put up a valiant effort, they fell short of their goal of winning three straight tournaments, tying for 2nd place as a team over the two-day tournament. Shooting a 289 as a team during the first day of play, the Patriots buckled down on the second day, shooting a 287 for a total of 576 overall, finishing 3 shots back of Cumberland University for the tournament title.
The Patriots were led once again by freshman Michal Pospisil (Unhost-Nouzov, Czech Republic), who finished 2nd individually shooting a strong 68 on the second day of play, bringing his tournament total to 138 (-6). Hugo Alvarez Asorey (Oviedo, Spain) shot a 145 (+1), good enough to earn him a solid 7th place finish. Josh Gregorich (London, KY) finished tied for 12th place after shooting 149 (+5) overall. Viktor Madsen (Akersburga, Sweden) tied for 16th place overall with a score of 150 (+6), while Isac Lambartsson (Njutanger, Sweden) finished 25th overall with a total score of 153 (+9). Two Patriots also competed as individuals in the tournament. Eli Towery (Mayfield, KY) also finished in the top 10 shooting a 147 (+3) finishing in 10th place. Stephen Marbach (Naperville, IL) also tied for 16th place overall with a score of 150 (+6).
Head Coach Chris Kraftick commented, "These young guys have to understand we have a target on our back at each tournament. Teams will give us their best shot each week and we have to be able to respond. It's been a long time since we've been beaten by a MSC team, but I know this will motivate our guys to get better."
The Patriots will look to continue their success as they travel to Pineville, KY on October 7th to compete in the Union College Invite at Wasioto Winds Golf Course.
