The University of the Cumberlands (UC) Volleyball program is off to a very solid start under its first year of direction by Head Coach Kathryn Hart.  With a full weekend of matches scheduled, the Patriots took it on head first and came away with 2 big wins in 3 matches.

On Friday night, the Patriots would travel to Brescia University, where all the matches were held this weekend, to take on the hosting Bearcats.  With great execution and consistency, the Patriots would knock off Brescia in three straight sets by scores of 25-8, 25-19, 25-13.  Morgan Schlatter (Springboro, OH) would lead the way for UC with 9 kills while Celine Du Toit (Alpharetta, GA) would add 7 kills of her own.  Samantha Stuckwisch (Seymour, IN) was the assist leader in the match with 28.
On Saturday, it was a doubleheader for the Patriots as they would first take on NCAA Division II Kentucky State University.  It would take 4 sets, but UC would come away with another victory 3-1 by scores of 25-21, 26-28, 25-21, 25-20.  The offense was very spread out in the match as Kelsey Eastham (Ostrander, OH), Megan Ganser (Waterloo, WI), and Du Toit each had 10 kills in the match while Megan Schulte (Beavercreek, OH) would chip in 7 kills of her own.  Stuckwisch once again would be pivotal in the match as she accumulated 36 assists in the win.
Finally on Saturday, the Patriots would take on Kentucky Wesleyan, another member of NCAA Division II, in their closing match of the weekend.  This time, the Patriots didn't have enough offense to match up with the Panthers as they fell 3-1 by scores of 25-23, 20-25, 16-25, 18-25.  Schlatter would once again lead the way for the Patriots with 12 kills while DuToit would add 10 kills of her own.  Ganser and Eastham would together have 15 kills as well.  Stuckwisch would be the only Patriot to earn an assist in the match with 35.
The Patriots will be back in action on Tuesday as they travel to take on #18 Georgetown College in a huge MSC matchup.  First serve is set for 7:00 pm.
