The University of the Cumberlands (UC) Cross Country teams are off to a strong start in the 2013 season. With two solid finishes thus far, the Patriots are looking to make a name for themselves in the coming month of competition before heading into the Mid-South Conference (MSC) Championships. With her run this past weekend, one Patriot caught the eyes of the MSC and earned weekly honors.
Junior Danielle Hoop (Owenton, KY) earned the Mid-South Conference Runner of the Week award, the conference announced on Monday. This is the 2nd time Danielle has earned the honor this year as she won the award on September 9th as well.
Hoop finished as the top NAIA runner at the 23rd Annual Friendship Invitational hosted by Cedarville (Ohio) University. She crossed the finish line in 22 minutes and 59 seconds to end the 6,000-meter race in fifth place. This was good enough for Hoop's best finish of the season.
Hoop was the only NAIA runner in the top-15 in the predominately NCAA field. She helped the Patriots to a fifth-place team finish in the 11-team, 107-woman race.
The Patriot ladies will be back on the course on October 5th as they take part in the Greater Louisville Classic.
