The University of the Cumberlands (UC) Men's Soccer team opened up their Mid-South Conference (MSC) schedule on the road this past weekend against the Bears of Shawnee State University. With efficient ball movement and tough defensive play, the Patriots came out on top 3-1, moving their overall record to 1-1-1 and moving to 1-0 in MSC play.
The Patriots started the game off strong as Ariel Castanon (Chile) scored back to back goals within 3:30 of each other, including the 2nd one with 3 seconds left in the half. Those goals were assisted by Joao Ehlers (Sao Paulo, Brazil) and Lazar Krdzic (Cacak, Serbia), which put the Patriots up 2-0 going into the second half.
Although the Bears made a valiant attempt to make a comeback, scoring their first goal of the game in the 56th minute of play, Cumberlands refused to give up their first conference match-up as Rubem Lima (Sao Paulo, Brazil) scored from 30 yards out at the 80th minute of play, sending the final score to 3-1.
With the MSC victory, Cumberlands will look to continue their success as they travel to St. Catharine on Sept. 18th. The game is scheduled to start at 5pm.
