The University of the Cumberlands (UC) Volleyball Patriots had a busy weekend as they traveled on Friday to take on the University of Pikeville (UPike) Bears before facing the Bluefield College Rams on Saturday. The Patriot ladies had a lot of motivation behind them, but only salvaged a split in the two matches as they fell to the Bears of UPike on Friday 3-2 before sweeping the Rams of Bluefield on Saturday 3-0.
The Patriots made the trip to Pikeville on Friday, but could not keep any momentum as they fell to the Bears in 5 sets by scores of 24-26, 25-19, 15-25, 25-16, 10-15. Senior Kelsey Eastham (Ostrander, OH) and freshman Jennifer Philpot (Cincinnati, OH) combined for 21 kills in the contest. Sophomore Morgan Schlatter (Springboro, OH) was also a huge asset pitching in 17 assists. Freshman Sydney Beck (Lebanon, OH) was also doing her job well chipping in 9 assists and 19 defensive digs.
The Patriot ladies then traveled to Bluefield, VA to take on the Bluefield College Rams on Saturday. UC seemed to come out with a chip on their shoulder during the match and swept the Rams in three sets by scores of 25-19, 25-18, 25-16. Schlatter was huge for her team yet again as she tallied 12 kills on the night and 12 defensive digs. Eastham added 11 kills of her own in the match. Sophomore Samantha Stuckwisch (Seymour, IN) was on her "A" game as she pitched in 36 assists in the match.
The UC Patriot Volleyball program will be back in action on Monday, September 16th as they host the Shawnee State University Bears at 6:00 pm.
