The University of the Cumberlands (UC) Women's Soccer team traveled to Bryan College on Wednesday night in search of their first victory of the 2013 season. Although the Patriots battled back against the Lions to tie up the score in the second half and send the game into double overtime, it wasn't enough to claim a win as the Patriots lost a heartbreaker 2-1. With their first loss on the road this season, Cumberlands now moves to 0-2.
The first half favored the Lions of Bryan College with the first score of the game coming in the 12th minute by Emily Lambert, keeping the Lions on top 1-0 the entire first half. However, the Patriots finally found their rhythm as the game progressed with forward Kim Robinson (Berea, KY) finding the back of the net for the Patriots at the 72 minute mark, bumping the score even at 1-1.
Holding the Lions off the scoreboard the remainder of the second half, the Patriots pushed the contest into overtime where the defense took control, deflecting every shot and attack which came their way. The spectacular effort forced a second overtime, where the Patriots moved the ball well and hustled after each broken play. However, Cumberlands ran out of steam as the Lions' Ashley Jordan scored the game winner in the 102nd minute of play. Although the outcome of the score wasn't what the Patriot ladies had hoped for, the effort and heart put forth by the entire team was a strong indication of what the season holds for the young squad.
The Patriots look to capture their first win of the season Saturday, September 7th, at home as they face Montreat College at 2 pm.
