The University of the Cumberlands (UC) Patriot Football team made a big statement this weekend as they defeated the Union College Bulldogs 52-21 in the Battle for the Brass Lantern. With 31 unanswered points in the 2nd half, the Patriots showed just how explosive their offense can be. Their showing this week earned numerous players Beyond Sports Network (BSN) Player of the Week awards.
The Patriot offensive line was awarded the O-Line of the Week award for their stellar performance on Saturday as they did nearly everything correctly. The O-Line opened up holes, drove the defense backwards, and pushed the Patriots down the field as they racked up 599 total offensive yards and 52 points against the Bulldogs, the most points ever scored in the rivalry history.
Terrance Cobb (Knoxville, TN) was also named a BSN Offensive Player of the Week award for his part in UC's offensive onslaught. Cobb picked up where he left off in the 2012 season as he ran the ball 23 times for 228 yards and 3 touchdowns. During the game, Cobb broke off a 59 yard touchdown run in which he surpassed Scott Hamilton as the all-time leading rusher in UC history. He now sits at 4,113 yards in his career and 50 career rushing touchdowns, also a UC career record.
The Patriots are prepping for a battle this weekend as they will host NAIA #25 Cumberland University in a NAIA Top 25 matchup at James H. Taylor, II Stadium. Kickoff is set for 1:30 pm.
