The University of the Cumberlands (UC) Patriots Men's Soccer team started out their season in unfortunate fashion on Wednesday as they fell 3-1 to the Truett-McConnell College Bears of Cleveland, Georgia. UC moves to 0-1 on the season with the loss.
Scoring started late in the first half for the Bears, with two goals in the 32nd and 44th minute of the game. Leading 2-0 at halftime, the Bears found the net once again in the 47th minute, bringing the lead to 3-0. The Patriot offense pulled together in time for sophomore Ariel Castanon (Chile) to put one in the net in the 75th minute with a goal assisted by senior Ciaran Tracey (Dublin, Ireland). The Patriots couldn't put together any more offense though in the game as they fell 3-1 to the Bears.
Overall, the Patriots had a total of 11 shots with on 2 being on goal. Castanon led with two shots on goal followed by sophomore Pedro Antonelli (Mairipord, Brazil) with three attempted shots. Freshman goalie Joao Souza (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) saved three goals on the night.
The Patriots will take the field for the first time at home this Saturday, September 7th, as they take on Montreat College. Kickoff is set to start at 4:00 pm.
