The University of the Cumberlands (UC) Volleyball Patriots has started off their season hot under the direction of new head coach Kathryn Hart. UC has worked hard over the last three weeks and it shows in their record as they moved to 3-0 on the season with wins Saturday over Dalton State and Berea College in a tri-match in Williamsburg.
UC was extremely energetic as the first match of the day was against the Dalton State Roadrunners. The Patriots took a strong game 1 victory over Dalton State, but evened up after game 2. UC then found their momentum and carried over into the next two games to take the match 3-1 over the Roadrunners by scores of 25-16, 22-25, 25-11, 26-24. Kelsey Eastham
(Urbana, OH) & Jennifer Philpot
(Cincinnati, OH) both pitched in big on the offensive side with 10 kills each. Morgan Schlatter
(Springboro, OH) was also huge for UC with 6 service aces in the match.
The next match for UC would be against the Berea College Mountaineers. UC carried over their momentum from the first match of the day and defeated the Mountaineers in straight sets 3-0 by scores of 25-19, 25-19, & 26-24. Schlatter was also big in this match with 9 kills. Megan Ganser
(Waterloo, WI) and Eastham also had 5 kills each.
Head Coach Kathryn Hart
commented, "We could not have hoped for a better start. It's great to see all the hard work the team has put in over the last 3 weeks pay off. Also, the atmosphere was fantastic for our first game. The support of parents and the student body made the wins that much more enjoyable."
The Patriot ladies will travel to take on Campbellsville University on September 3rd with first serve set for 7:00pm.
