The 2013 University of the Cumberlands (UC) Women's soccer program has hit the ground running on trying to return to form this season.  After a 2012 season which saw a head coaching change and a young nucleus of talent, UC has been working hard to bounce back from a 5-11 season.

Each season the head coaches of the Mid-South Conference (MSC) get together and vote on the Preseason MSC Coaches Poll for the team in the conference.  This season, the Patriot ladies were picked to finish 8th in the MSC.

For another season, Lindsey Wilson was picked to finish 1st in the MSC conference with 81 total points and 9 out of 10 1st place votes.  Cumberland University was picked to finish 2nd with 73 points and received the remaining 1st place vote.  Rounding out the top 3 was Campbellsville University with 62 points. Georgetown College came in 4th place with 58 points while Bluefield College was picked to finish 5th with 41 points.   St. Catharine was 6th with 39 points with Shawnee State University coming in 7th with 37 points.  The University of Rio Grande was 9th behind UC with 24 points while the University of Pikeville finished out the poll in 10th with 9 points.

The Patriots will be the underdog in nearly every game this season, but it will be something they look forward to.  Coach Joe Townsend looks forward to the challenge commenting, "The great thing about the conference now is that every team is strong.  There are no easy games and for me this is exactly what we want."

Look for the Patriots to come out strong this season and continue the rebuilding to be one of the top teams in the MSC.  Things will get started for the ladies on August 17th at Tusculum College at 2:00 pm for a scrimmage.  The ladies will return home on August 24th for their 2nd scrimmage of the preseason against Carson-Newman at 10:00 am.
