The University of the Cumberlands (UC) Men and Women's Golf teams had very successful seasons in 2012-2013 with both earning bids to the NAIA National Championship Tournament with the men finishing 9th and the women 10th.  With numerous Mid-South Conference (MSC) honors along with NAIA honors being handed out to individuals on the Patriot squads, another honor has now come forth for both teams.

Not only did the Patriots do well on the course but they also showed how they excelled in the classroom as well.  The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) has announced that 898 programs have been named 2012-13 NAIA Scholar-Teams.  The Patriot Men finished the year with a combined GPA of 3.32 while the Patriot ladies earned a 3.46 combined GPA on the academic year.

For a team to be considered for the NAIA Scholar-Team award, it must have a minimum 3.0 grade-point average (on a 4.0 scale) as defined by the institution. The team grade-point average includes all eligible varsity student-athletes.  The Patriots were joined by golf teams from Cumberland University (men and women), Lindsey Wilson College (men and women), and St. Catharine College (men) as the only golf teams in the Mid-South Conference to earn the award.

Head Patriot Golf Coach Chris Kraftick commented, "We've received a great deal of attention for what we do on the course, but our players are excellent students as well.  Our women finished with a team GPA of 3.46 and the men at 3.32.  That to me is our best accomplishment of the entire season."
