The University of the Cumberlands (UC) football team continues this summer with high hopes in mind.  They are entering the season coming off a great 2012-13 campaign where they not only won 10 games, but they also had a huge first round playoff victory against Mid-America Nazarene in the NAIA FCS opening round.  The Patriots have garnered many prestigious accomplishments along the way.  Now, you can add even another one to the list.

The Beyond Sports Network (BSN) just released its 2013-14 Preseason All-American team and UC had a strong standing.  Six Patriots were named preseason BSN All-American selections.  Seniors Terrance Cobb (Knoxville, TN), Weston Hazelhurt (Clinton, TN), and Adrian Hightower (Macon, GA) were selected first team members.  Seniors Willie Gibson (Abbeville,GA) and Nick Smith (Knoxville, TN) were named on the second team.  Also, senior Mitchell Mascaro (Knoxville, TN) was an Honorable Mention selection.

This makes the second time this month the Patriots have received preseason All-American honors, as they were also honored in the Sporting News College Football Preview edition.  This should come as no surprise as all 6 of these players are standouts for the Patriots as they make their presence felt week in and week out.

Head Coach John Bland commented on the honor, "I am very proud of our players and the well deserved honor of being named Preseason All-American.  Having (3) 1st teamers, (2) 2nd teamers, and (1) honorable mention is almost unheard of.   First of all, it is obvious that they have been blessed by God with awesome ability.  Secondly, they worked extremely hard to maximize their potential.  Thirdly, they are a part of a great program and team that helps produce this type of product.  The best thing about all of these young men is that their #1 goal is to win as a team.  The individual awards are great motivation though."

These 6 guys as well as the other Patriot players and coaches know that although it is nice to be recognized, the end of the year is all that matters.  The Patriots continue to work this summer for the ultimate goal of a National Championship.
