The University of the Cumberlands (UC) volleyball team is becoming one of the up and coming sports for the Patriots.  They have been getting better every season and are starting to make a name for themselves in the tremendously tough Mid-South Conference (MSC).  UC hopes that they can go even further with the naming of Kathryn Hart as their new head coach.

Coach Hart hails from Huntsville, TX.  She began her college volleyball career at Belhaven University in Jackson, MS.  Hart was a standout for the Blazers as she was a team captain from 2005-2007, a Gulf Coast Athletic Conference (GCAC) All-Conference selection from 2005-2007, and she was also selected All-Region in 2007.  Also, while at Belhaven, Hart was graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Sports Administration.

After her playing career Hart took to the coaching ranks where she was an Assistant Coach for Springfield College in Springfield, MA.  While she was at Springfield Hart helped guide the Pride to very successful seasons including a conference championship and a berth in the NCAA Division III Tournament.  While at Springfield she completed her Master's degree in Sports Management.

Hart earned her first head coaching job at Eastern Nazarene College while also taking on the job of Senior Women's Administrator.  Coach Hart excelled at player development.  After her first season, the team showed an 8 win improvement going 11-17 in 2011 and then posted a 13-16 record in 2012, the second most wins in the last decade.  The thrill of being able to offer scholarships and being closer to the south was a huge factor in deciding to join the UC Patriot family.

"UC is a great school, in a beautiful part of the country, with a very successful Athletics Department," stated Hart.  "I am very excited about the opportunity to join the team and hopefully add to the success of Patriot athletics.  Our overall goal is a conference championship, and to ultimately receive a berth in the NAIA National Tournament."

Coach Hart will bring a very fast pace style to the Patriots where she hopes to wear down the other team, and take advantage of mistakes.

UC Vice President of Athletics Randy Vernon added, "I am very excited to announce Kathryn Hart as our new head volleyball coach.  Kathryn has coached on the collegiate level for the past five years, the last three as a head coach, and played four years of college volleyball.  Her experience as both a player and coach will be of great help to our program as we continue our rise in the challenging Mid South Conference.  I've been very impressed with her knowledge and passion for the game and her energy for recruiting is outstanding.  We are very fortunate to have Kathryn Hart as part of our athletic staff."
