The University of the Cumberlands (UC) athletic program had yet another triumphant year around the Mid-South Conference (MSC) and nation in 2012-2013. Winning two regular season Mid-South Conference Championships and 3 MSC Tournament titles, each Patriot team contributed to this year's success with multiple teams finishing the year in the NAIA Top 25 for their respective sports. After a 3rd place finish for the MSC President's Cup, the Patriots earned a spot in another elite Top 25 field.
UC earned the #11 spot out of 203 schools in the Learfield Sports Directors' Cup Final Standings for the 2012-2013 season. The Learfield Sports Director's Cup was developed as a joint effort between the NACDA and USA Today, awarding points based on each institution's finish in up to 12 sports, six women's and six men's, at the national championships. The 2012-2013 athletics season marks the fifth year for Learfield Sports as title partner of the Learfield Sports Directors' Cup.
The Mid-South Conference was well-represented this year in the standings with nine total teams from the MSC earning spots in the poll including Lindsey Wilson College (#2), Cumberland University (#28), Georgetown College (#51), Campbellsville University (#54), Shawnee State University (#82), the University of Rio Grande (#148), the University of Pikeville (#178), and St. Catharine College (#178).
UC Athletic Director Randy Vernon commented, "I want to congratulate our sports teams on finishing 11th in the Learfield Sports Directors' Cup standings. I am so proud of our entire group of student-athletes and coaches who work so hard to compete to the best of their ability. We take great pride in our athletic program at University of the Cumberlands and to be rewarded by this honor is very gratifying."
