The University of the Cumberlands (UC) Women's Tennis team is currently participating in the Mid-South Conference (MSC) Tournament Semifinals as they advanced by defeating Georgetown College earlier this week. On Thursday, the MSC announced its yearly honors and many Patriot ladies garnered high awards.
UC's Neesha Thirumalaichelvam (Selangor, Malaysia) was named the 2013 Mid-South Conference Women's Tennis Player of the Year. Thirumalaichelvam had an 8-0 singles record against MSC opposition this spring and a 7-1 doubles record for the Patriots. She was one of the 11 women selected to the MSC All-Conference First Team by the conference coaches. Joining her was Chanel Williams (Cincinnati, OH) as she earned MSC All-Conference Honorable Mention honors.
Six other Patriots were also honored as they earned MSC Academic All-Conference Awards. In order to be nominated by an institution, a student-athlete must maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.25 on a 4.0 scale and must have achieved at least sophomore academic status. The Patriots receiving this honor were Lindsay Collette (London, KY), Erin Hart (Corbin, KY), Bailey Mays (Clinton, TN), Victoria Sissom (Clinton, TN), Samantha Taylor (Owensboro, KY), and Brittany Willis (Whitesburg, KY).
The Mid-South Conference Women's Tennis Tournament continues on Friday with two semifinal matches beginning at 11 a.m. at the Boone Tennis Center in Lexington, KY. The #5 seeded Patriots will take on #1 seeded Lindsey Wilson College.
