The University of the Cumberlands (UC) Track and Field teams is continuing a run of impressive finishes thus far this spring. With numerous individuals earning event wins along with a plethora of top 5 finishes, one Patriot this week stood out among the rest and for that was honored by the Mid-South Conference (MSC).
Cumberlands Jonathan Gears (Andover, OH) has been named the Mid-South Conference Track Athlete of the week, conference officials announced on Monday. It is the first time this season and in his career that Gears has won the award.
Gears, a freshman at UC, was impressive in the Centre Invitational as he recorded a win as well as a second place finish. Gears won the 25 man 1,500 meter run with a personal best time of 4:4.55. He was also close to winning his second event, the 800 meter run, as he ran a 1:59.90 just 3 seconds off the win. That time was also a personal best for Jonathan. Gears accounted for 18 points to help win the Invite for the Patriots.
Jonathan and the rest of his Patriot teammates will now hope to continue their success as they will participate in the UC Invite, the only home track meet of the season. It is a 2 day meet that starts at 2pm on April 12th and finishes on Saturday April 13th.
