The University of the Cumberlands (UC) Track and Field program opened with a solid performance at the 49er Classic to begin this year's outdoor season. With several top finishes, two Patriot athletes were recognized for their efforts this week by the Mid-South Conference (MSC).
UC's Albert Huntley (Atlanta, GA) was named the Mid-South Conference Track Athlete of the Week and Corey Chaffin (Pataskala, OH) is the MSC Field Athlete of the Week, conference officials announced on Monday. The weekly conference award is Huntley and Chaffin's first of the season and of their careers.
Huntley produced a top-five finish and a top-20 finish in his two events during the University of North Carolina Charlotte 49er Classic to earn the conference's field weekly honors. Albert ran the 100-meter dash in 10.63 seconds to finish fourth in the finals. His time of time of 10.71 during the preliminaries enabled him to reach the finals from a pool of 89 participants. Huntley narrowly missed the finals in the 200-meter dash, but produced the 17th fastest time in the 97-man field. He crossed the finish line with a time of 21.90 seconds.
Chaffin finished 20th in the 43-man shot put event to earn the MSC's field weekly honors. He finished with a distance of 41-1.50 feet (12.53 meters).
The Patriots will be back in action on March 29th and 30th as they travel to compete in the Emory Classic.
