The University of the Cumberlands (UC) Women's Basketball program just finished up a solid 2012-2013 season. The Patriots unfortunately made an early exit in the first round of the NAIA National Championship Tournament to #1 seeded and 2013 NAIA Champions Westmont College. UC overall had quite a bit of success this season both on and off the floor and for that, one of its members was honored.
The NAIA has announced the Division I Women's Basketball 2012-2013 Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athletes. There were 124 student-athletes from all over the nation named to the team including the University of the Cumberlands own Thali Rodrigues (Malmo, Sweden). In order to be named to this prestigious team, athletes must be at least a junior in the classroom and maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale.
A junior guard and captain of the Patriot ladies, Rodrigues played a vital role for Cumberlands throughout the season, starting in 18 of the Patriots' 31 games. A general on the floor at point guard, Rodrigues dished out 61 assists on the season while racking up 37 steals, second on the team in both categories. UC ended their season with a strong record of 18-13.
