The University of the Cumberlands (UC) Women's basketball team traveled to Bluefield College on Thursday evening to do battle against a dangerous and talented Lady Rams squad. Defending a current 4-game winning streak, the Patriot ladies refused to disappoint Patriot fans, running away with a 56-43 win. With yet another road victory, the Patriots now move to 18-10 on the season and 11-8 in Mid-South Conference (MSC) play.
Leading by 6 at the half, the Patriot ladies kicked things into a whole new gear in the second half, working together on both ends of the court to pull away from the Rams. Out-rebounding the Rams 35-29 and holding them to only 37% shooting from the field for the night, the Patriots defense propelled Cumberlands to the win column once again.
The Patriots were led by senior Dace Bicane (Riga, Latvia) who scored a game-high 19 points while grabbing 9 tough rebounds. Junior Jackie Alexander (Brodhead, KY) put up 16 points of her own while Vernisha Moss (Nassau, Bahamas) chipped in 7 points, 6 rebounds, and 2 steals. As a team, the Patriot ladies shot 42% from the field and 33% from behind the three-point line.
The Patriots will look to close out the regular season on a strong note as they travel to Cumberland University on Monday night to face the #6 Bulldogs. Game is set to tip-off at 6 pm.
