On Saturday, February 9th, the University of the Cumberlands (UC) Cheerleading and Dance teams competed in this year's NAIA East Regional Championship held in Campbellsville, KY.
The Patriot cheerleading team placed second in the small coed division, earning a bronze bid to the 2013 NCA Nationals. Campbellsville University earned 74.95 points while UC followed closely behind with 70.35 points.
Senior cheerleader Brittany Bostic commented, "We've worked really hard and have been through so much to get to this point. I am very proud of this squad. I think we're all just ready to get back in the gym and work extra hard and bounce back to win the conference." Head Coach Beth Wooley added, "We have been through many obstacles the past few weeks and everyone worked hard to pull together as a team and perform their best. I could not be more proud of the sportsmanship and dedication that this team shows. These next few weeks, we will continue to work hard to bring home the conference win."
UC will compete again on February 27th at the Mid-South Conference (MSC) Championships, hoping to reclaim the title.
UC's dance team had an exciting performance and came out with second place behind Lindsey Wilson College. This was their first time competing at this competition in the small dance division and they scored 88 points, not far behind Lindsey Wilsons 92.5 points.
Head Dance Coach Lindsey Baker commented, "I was very proud of the team. We did a great job, performed well and we all had a lot of fun." Patriot senior dancer Jodie Osborne added, "I really liked the supportive atmosphere; we all had a lot of fun."
Overall both teams had a very successful weekend, and both look forward to improving and getting ready for their next competition.
