The University of the Cumberlands (UC) Women's Wrestling program is in its final stretch of their 2012-2013 season as they traveled this past weekend to participate in the Dave Schultz Memorial International Open. The Patriots did not take a full team but did have solid performances throughout the tournament.
In the 51 kg weight class, Milagros Zamora (Homestead, FL) competed for the Patriots but unfortunately drew a tough seed as she dropped her first two matches going 0-2 in the tournament.
In the 63 kg weight class, two Patriots competed as Lauren Louive (Massillan, OH) and Brittney Gadd (Mercer, PA) both competed for UC. Louive went 2-2 on the day including a pinfall victory in the first round over Larissa D'Alleva of Canada and a decision victory over her teammate Gadd in the consolation bracket. Gadd went 1-2 on the day with her victory coming by decision over Rachael Young of OKCU Gator RTC.
Sydney Nelson (Kingsland, GA) also competed for UC in the 67 kg. weight class. Nelson went 1-2 on the day as she earned a hard fought decision victory in the consolation bracket over Stephanie Geltmacher of OKCU Gator RTC before falling to Brittany David of Lindenwood University to end her tournament.
The Patriot ladies will be back in action on March 29th and 30th as they travel to Oklahoma City, Oklahoma as they will take part in the 2013 ASICS University Nationals.
