This past weekend, the University of the Cumberlands (UC) track and field team competed in the Cedarville Collegiate Indoor Invite in Cedarville, OH. The Patriots were prepared and provided a challenge for the other teams they faced.   The women's team placed 4th of 13 teams with 55.50 points while the men's team placed 2nd of 11 teams with 117 points.

On the women's side of the competition in the running events senior Darcy Mascotti (Bellbrook, OH) and sophomore Danielle Hoop  (Owenton, KY) both competed in the women's 1000 meter run and finished in 1st and 2nd place with times of 2:58 and 3:00 respectively. Both Mascotti and Hoop broke the meet and field house record for first and second on this event. Also, each of these ladies hit the qualifying "A" standard and will advance on to Indoor Nationals in the 1000 meter run. 

In the 5,000 meter run, sophomore Shelby Gibbons (Hamersville, OH) placed 7th with a time of 20:07 followed by junior Christine Moon (Sardina, OH) and Jennifer Marcum (Springsboro, OH) with times of 20:22 and 20:51.  In the relay events, the Women's 4 x 200 meter relay team consisting of Quanisha McFadden (Lima, OH), Nahtae Thompson, Shawnee Holbrook, and Shanice Carbon placed 3rd overall with a time of 1:56. The ladies team also had a 4 x 400 meter relay team compete where they placed 4th running a time of 4:29. The relay consisted of Darcy Mascotti (Bellbrook, OH), Danielle Hoop  (Owenton, KY), Natasha Sydnor, and Samantha Proffitt.

In the women's 55 meter hurdles, two Patriots competed. Nahtae Thompson and Shawnee Holbrook took 13th and 14th place in this event running times of 9.89 and 10.07 respectively. In the 55 meter dash Shanice Carbon advanced on to finals, where she placed 5th sprinting a time of 7.82. In the 200 meter dash, Quanisha McFadden (Lima, OH) and Shanice Carbon represented the Patriots running 28.43 and 29.59 placing 9th and 16th respectively. Looking at middle distance, Natasha Sydnor and Audrey Springer ran the 800 meter dash where they placed 6th and 8th running times of 2:35 and 2:37. Sydney Freeman participated in the 3,000 meter run and placed 10th with a time of 12:58.

In the field events for the women, specifically on the throws side, sophomore Taylor Mayes tied for 8th in the women's weight throw with a distance of 10.83 meters. Mayes also competed in the women's shot put where she placed 6th with a throw of 10.69 meters. Samantha Proffitt was the lone Patriot in the pentathlon. Proffitt scored a total of 2,546 points which was good enough for a new indoor school record in this event. Closing out the events for the ladies, the Patriots had two girls compete in the 3,000 meter race walk competition. Ashley Campos and Melissa Roark placed 14th and 15th, walking fast times of 20:05 and 22:49.

Participating for the men's side of the competition in the running events, senior Aundreas Lopez (Calistoga, CA) placed 1st in the men's 1000 meter run with a time of 2:33 which qualifies for indoor nationals hitting the "B" standard.  Following Lopez in 2nd place was sophomore Donnie Whyte (Miamisburg, OH) with a time of 2:34. In the men's 800 meter dash senior Brendan Kelly (Lexington, KY) won the event with a time of 1:58.45. Following Kelly was teammate Kevin Ross-Rogers (Lexington, KY) placing 4th with a time of 2:00.89.

In the 400 meter dash, freshman Raymond Bettman-Hodge (Louisville, KY) ran a 58.49 earning him a 6th place finish. In the 200 meter dash, numerous Cumberland men competed. Albert Huntley earned a 5thplace finish with a time of 23.57, followed directly by teammate Erik Willis placing 6th with a time of 23.63. Dekeldric Felton ran a 24.53 placing 10th, Dallas Defoor went 24.71 placing 12th, Keontre Walker ran a 25.29 placing 16th, Woody Thompson, Erik Van Dyke, and Jeremiah Stidman ran 25.78, 25.89, and 26.87 finishing 21st, 22nd, and 23rd.

In the 5,000 meter run, senior Landon Hamilton (Andover, OH) received 3rd place with a time of 15:18 and sophomore Devin Edwards (Corbin, KY) placed 12th a time of 17:24. Hamilton's time was good enough to earn him a spot at indoor nationals.   

In the relay events, the men's 4 x 200 meter "A" team relay consisting of D'Angelo Jordan, Woody Thompson, Erik Van Dyke, and Raymond Bettman-Hodge (Louisville, KY) ran a 1:42 placing 6th. The "B" team consisting of Zak Kemp, Keontre Walker, Dallas Defoor, and Jeremiah Stidman ran a 1:41 placing 4th. The men's 4 x 800 meter relay team of Donnie Whyte (Miamisburg, OH), Jonathan Gears (Andover, OH), Sam Meredith (Louisville, KY), and Kevin Ross-Rogers (Lexington, KY) ran an 8:41 and won the event.

In the men's weight throw, throwing as unattached but a Cumberland athlete was Corey Chaffin who threw a distance of 12.29 meters, placing 10th. Placing 12th was Christian Brislenn throwing 11.86 meters. Joe Dauscha (Huntlan, TN) also threw in this event placing 14th with a throw of 11.21 meters. Each of these men competed in the shot put also. Chaffin placing 6th throwing 12.73 meters, Brislenn placing 12th with an 11.73 meter throw, and Dauscha placing 21st with a throw of 10.61 meters. Freshman Carson Newman also competed in this event and threw 11.80 meters placing 11th.

During the field events, Zak Kemp placed 3rd in the men's triple jump with a leap of 11.55 meters.  Michael Ross competed in the men's pole vault placing 5th jumping 3.75 meters. Zak Kemp and Slade Klinksiek ran in the 55 meter hurdles where they placed 5th and 6th with times of 9.27 and 9.44. In the regular 55 meter dash three Patriots advanced to the finals. Albert Huntley won the event with a time of 6.52, followed by teammates D'Angelo Jordan and Erik Willis placing 5th and 6th with times of 6.78 and 6.80.

The men's 1 mile run had one lone Patriot participate as Jonathan Gears (Andover, OH), ran a 4:27 placing 5th. Also looking on the distance side of the team, Sam Meredith (Louisville, KY) ran the 3,000 meter run placing 3rd with a time of 8:52. The men's heptathlon had three Cumberland Patriots as one ran unattached. The two that competed for Cumberlands were James Bullock, Kevin Ping, while Seth Stoffle (Seymour, TN) competed unattached. Bullock placed 2nd with 2,727 points, Ping placed 5th earning 2,398 points, while Stoffle placed 6th with 2,366 points.

The Patriots will travel to Greencastle, IN to compete in the DePauw Classic on February 9th. Select Patriots will also travel to Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana on February 8th
