Women's Basketball - Sat, Feb. 2, 2013

The University of the Cumberlands (UC) Women's Basketball team came into the week of play with some momentum off two big victories last week over UVA-Wise and the University of Pikeville.  With two big games this week on the road at St. Catharine College and Georgetown College, the Patriots needed to keep the momentum in their favor heading into the final stretch of Mid-South Conference (MSC) play.

On Thursday, the Patriot ladies would take to the floor against the St. Catharine College Patriots.  UC would come out early swinging as they would take a 33-30 lead into the half.  It was the hot shooting of St. Catharine in the 2nd half coupled with shooting the ball very well from the free throw line that would cripple the Patriots of UC as they fell to St. Catharine 67-74.  Jill Herman (Powell, TN) led UC with 22 points and 4 rebounds on the night.  Brooke Forsythe (Brunswick, OH) would prove to be big off the bench as she contributed 18 points, 6 rebounds, and 5 blocks.

On Saturday, the Patriots would go into the unfriendly confines of Georgetown College to take on the NAIA #12 ranked Tigers.  Although the Tigers jumped out to a sizeable lead early, the Patriots would bring it within 6 at the break 38-44.  UC would come out of the break with a big run and the game would go back and forth for the majority of the half before the Tigers would pull away with a 78-85 win over UC.  Dace Bicane (Riga, Latvia) led the Patriots with 19 points and 6 rebounds on the night. Herman added 15 while Ashley Mullins (Totz, KY) came off the bench with 14 points and 7 rebounds in the game.

The Patriots (13-10, 6-8 MSC) will return home next week as they host Lindsey Wilson College on Thursday and NAIA #11 Campbellsville University on Saturday.
