The University of the Cumberlands (UC) Men's Wrestling team has had a stellar season thus far. Their success as of late has the eyes of the NAIA turning back to the Patriots as they have made a move up in the NAIA poll.
Last Wednesday, the 4th edition of this season's NAIA Top 20 was released and UC moved up 1 spot from #12 to #11 in the country, receiving 49 points in the poll. Grand View (Iowa) remains at the top of the NAIA receiving 150 total points in the poll. UC is joined in the poll by familiar foes including Campbellsville (#5), Lindsey Wilson (#8), Indiana Tech (#16), and Cumberland University (#18).
Several Patriots were also ranked in the Top 16 of their weight class as well. Andrew Tillman (Abbeville, SC) moved up 3 spots in the 125 pound class from #15 to #12. Anthonie Linares (San Jose, CA) remains at #3 in the NAIA in the 149 pound category. Javier Arrellano (Azusa, CA) moved up 1 spot in the 157 pound class from #10 to #9. Zachary Barkett (Woodbridge, VA) remains at #6 in the NAIA in the 165 pound category. A newcomer to the 184 pound weight class poll is Jeremy Gardner (Frankfort, KY) as he went from unranked to #13 in the NAIA. Fred Byars (College Park, GA) held steady at #7 in the NAIA in the 197 pound weight class. Courtney Freeman (Riverdale, GA) also was ranked in the 197 pound category as he moved up one spot from #14 to #13. Finally, Vince Pezzuto (Las Vegas, NV) found his way into the upper echelon of the 285 pound category as he went from unranked to #13 in the NAIA after an impressive weekend.
