The University of the Cumberlands (UC) Women's basketball team proved to the country that they are far from done this season, completing the week with back-to-back victories on the road against the Pikeville Bears 72-46 and the UVA-Wise Cavaliers 63-52.  After struggling to find a rhythm the past three games, the Patriot ladies finally came together as a unit playing together with patience, precision, and excitement.  With both wins, the Patriots now move to 11-6 on the season and breakeven at 4-4 in Mid-South Conference (MSC) play.

On Thursday, the Patriot ladies traveled to the East Kentucky Expo Center in Pikeville to battle the Bears in what started out as a tough battle.  However with multiple steals on the defensive end and successful transition buckets, Cumberlands pulled ahead early in the first and never looked back.  Shooting a solid 55% from the field and 44% from behind the three-point line, UC produced with an extremely balanced attack.  With four players scoring in double-digit figures and all available players seeing the floor, the offensive scheme was too much for the Bears.  Jill Herman (Powell, TN) and Ashley Mullins (Totz, KY) led the way with 15 points apiece, with Jackie Alexander (Brodhead, KY) following close behind with 13 points of her own.  Dace Bicane (Riga, Latvia) posted another double-double this season scoring 11 points and grabbing 10 rebounds while dishing out 4 assists.

On Saturday, the Patriot ladies traveled to Virginia to face the Cavaliers in one of the most interesting wins in Cumberlands history.  While the Patriots played nearly flawless on the defensive end, finishing with 15 team steals and holding the Cavs to only 16 field goals, UVA-Wise managed to stick close the entire game scoring 33 points off of 11 three-point daggers.  Although the score was close the majority of the game, the Patriots brought their game to a whole new level, winning technically by 11 but feeling closer to a 30-point victory.  Dace Bicane proved to be at an All-American ability playing the best overall game of her career and shutting down the Cavaliers star player, holding her to simply 1 point on the night.  Bicane posted another double-double with 23 points and ripping down 18 rebounds.  She didn't stop there however finishing with 6 steals on the defensive side in 37 minutes of play.  Alexander, Mullins, and Jessica Upchurch (Stanford, KY) each added 10 points apiece as well, while point guard Thali Rodrigues (Malmo, Sweden) controlled her team on offense nearly perfectly and totaled an impressive 5 steals of her own on the defensive side.

The Patriot ladies will look to further their winning streak this week with huge games on the road against Campbellsville University on Thursday at 6:00 pm and at Lindsey Wilson on Saturday at 3:00 pm.
