The University of the Cumberlands (UC) football team has finished its best season since 2009.  It was a season that will go down in history as the Patriots finished 10-2, set numerous individual school records, and won its second ever NAIA FCS Championship Series game defeating MidAmerica Nazarene 42-24 in the first round.  Unfortunately for the Patriots the season came to an end as they lost in the second round to defending NAIA National Champion St. Xavier 35-21.

It was certain that not only the fans, but the NAIA took notice of the Patriots' magical season as they were ranked as the number 7th ranked team in the country in the final NAIA polls.  That is the Patriots' highest ranking in a postseason poll since 2008 when they finished #6.

The Patriots were not the only Mid-South Conference team chosen as two other members were also ranking in the top 10.  Georgetown College and Bethel University were ranked 8th and 9th respectively as Bethel knocked off Georgetown in the opening round of the NAIA FCS in one of the quirkiest games in the history of the NAIA postseason. They were also joined by Cumberland University at #19 and Kentucky Christian who rounded out the top 25 poll finishing 25th

This is most certainly a remarkable end to one of the best seasons in school history.  The Patriots are getting ready to prepare for the next season as they hope to build upon a solid foundation that they put down this year.
