The University of the Cumberlands (UC) men's basketball team has started off the year strong with an undefeated record of 10-0 overall and a 4-0 in the Mid-South Conference (MSC). The NAIA Men's Basketball Division I Top 25 poll was released Tuesday, December 4th and the Patriots made a monumental jump by having the largest margin jump of the week and possibly the largest climb in recent history from the #25 team in the nation to the #2 team in the NAIA. The Patriots make the best jump within the poll this week and improved 23 positions from the Preseason Top 25. They posted 266 total points and one first-place vote.
The Patriots' continuity this season has them on their largest winning streak since the 2008-2009 season. UC has also defeated four MSC teams during this streak including Shawnee State, Rio Grande, Cumberland University, and Bluefield. The Patriots also have garnered wins over now #18 Life University.
Oklahoma Baptist moves up to the No. 1 ranking in the first regular-season edition of the 2012-13 NAIA Division I Men's Basketball Coaches' Top 25 Poll, announced Tuesday by the national office. The Bison improved to 9-1 on the season after an 88-81 victory on Dec. 1 against Concordia (Calif.) in a rematch of the 2012 NAIA National Championship final. Oklahoma Baptist collected nine-of-the-11 possible first-place votes and 279 total points.
The Patriots look to continue their run into the New Year as they defeated Bluefield College last Saturday night 96-77. The Patriots will play Carver College on Wednesday December 5thand #18 Life University on December 6th. UC will round out 2012 by playing Indiana University Southeast on December 14th and hosting Tennessee Wesleyan on December 29th.
